Sapphire Technology has officially presented a new model of its graphics card with the implemented unique Flex solution. Codenamed HD 7870 Flex Edition, this card is based on Graphics Core Next architecture developed by AMD. One of the peculiarities observed in this model is the integration of a high-end cooling system Dual-X that is called to ensure efficient cooling down and practically silent work. Dual-X system consists of heat pipes and two fans, the bearings of which accommodate dirt-repellent coverage.
All models of Sapphire Flex series are able to support three DVI monitors in Eyefinity mode and create SLS conditions without the employment of active adapters. Two monitors are connected to the DVI ports, while the third one – to the HDMI to DVI connector. In addition, customers have got real opportunity to connect up to five monitors simultaneously due to the availability of two DisplayPort sockets. This might serve a good background for the creation of solutions for multi-display games or applications for content creation and editing.
To continue, the core clock frequency of HD 7870 Flex equals to 1000-1200 MHz for the integrated DDR5 2 Gb memory type. This graphics card boasts Dual BIOS standards which ensure outstanding performance due to the factory overclocking. Moreover, the customers, who crave for the maximal performance showings, can download a special tool Sapphire TriXX which enables the adjustment of GPU voltage and memory clock frequency.
HD 7870 Flex is compatible with Windows 8 platform and with DirectX 11 tool, including DirectCompute11 and multi-threaded data sharing with CPU. Data sharing with host-computer becomes possible thanks to the implementation of the advanced high-speed PCI-Express 3.0 series interface. HDMI specifications have also been improved: HDMI 1.4a supports stereoscopic 3D due to the increased frame change frequency to each eye at 60 Hz, thus 120 Hz in total.
