SSDs designed by MSI Company, which are based on the controller LSI SandForce SF-2200 will soon be announced officially. MSI company is known by producing of effective hardware components and laptop series, now they decide to show their abilities in developing new products: they are storages SSD series. Such decision by the company is not surprising, as it has certain knowledge and position on the computer market.



New SSD will have commercial codename Reflex Series and will be available in three options of 60, 120 and 240 GB.


According to preliminary information, the drives provide maximum read / write speed at 560/525 MB / s for the flagship 240GB, 550/515 MB / s for 120 GB and 525/495 MB / s for 60 GB. The claimed amount of IO with 4 KB data blocks (IOPS), respectively, will be 90,000, 90,000 and 85,000.

PaintPack vs Ambilight


A new development called PaintPack is presented. This model is intended to implement the same idea as the technology of Ambilight, but allows to «light around» any computer monitor. A device called PaintPack is a simpler version in a small box with ten cable-trains, which have bright LEDs at the ends. These LEDs are placed evenly around the perimeter of the back of the monitor, and provide illumination in accordance with what is happening at the moment on the screen. Nowadays HDD segment is represented by various products from various companies. However, with the development and release of ultrabooks, manufacturers directed their production to the hybrid-type drives. This resulted in the predominance of hybrid solutions in the market.



Recently Itel has advanced a motion to digress somehow from the production of hybrid drives and switch to the decrease of traditional HDDs dimensions to 5 mm in casing depth. According to the company's assumptions, such change could moderate the price for drives and provide the necessary volume capacity for ultrabooks.


Some manufacturers have already directed a part of their technological powers to the design of HDDs with 5 mm casings. Nevertheless, there appeared a couple of obstacles on their way: the necessity to stabilize data reading and writing activities, and increase of costs spent on drives' production.
