AMD Announces the Development of Steamroller

Heightened demand for high-end processor solutions and ever rising competition make AMD constantly develop its products. This usually results in the release of really outstanding items, such as already acknowledged Bulldozer and Piledriver. Therefore, according to the words of the companies technical manager, Mark Papermaster, the development of a new processor architecture, codenamed Steamroller, is already on order of AMD's business. The ready-made products are sure to be released next year. Steamroller is called to become the third edition of Bulldozer architecture that launched last year and a loyal companion of Piledriver core.

The initial data witness that processors on Steamroller architecture will be designed in correspondence with 28 nm technological process. This should favorably affect their efficiency and enlarge the performance by 15-20% at equivalent power consumption and clock frequency. At the same time, Steamroller will improve all specifications implemented in …

Haswell processors for laptops will consume up to 57 W, desktop - up to 100

Intel provides with three graphics levels: GT1, GT2 and GT3. Desktop processors won’t receive graphics performance higher than GT2, but mobile processors will be able to boast of with GT3 class. Support of PCI Express 3.0 for Haswell processors will be quite usual characteristics, but at the memory controller little progress is seen — yet provides dual-channel DDR3-1600.

By energy consumption Haswell desktop versions will be divided into models with values of 35, 45, 65 and 95 watts of TDP level. For mobile processors the values are 37, 47 and 57 W. Finally, ultra book processors with built-in system logic will be filled by TDP level not more than 15 watts. It is assumed that this will enable them, among other things, be in standby mode up to 10 days without charge.

The desire of Intel to compete with AMD in terms of performance integrated in graphics processor, will add some work to companies producing cooling systems for laptops. The developers report about …

HIS Starts Selling Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition in US Market

Hightech Information System presents its own version of AMD's Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card to the US hardware market. Codenamed Radeon HD 7970 IceQ X2 GHz Edition, this card is characterized by the integration of the most up-dated technologies and high-end components. The model is based on Tahiti XT chip developed under Graphics Core Next architecture template (28 nm technological process).

HIS Radeon HD 7970 IceQ X2 GHz Edition takes blue printed circuit board designed for PCI Express 3.0 x16 bus as the basis. It is distinguished by the implementation of the reinforced power subsystem and by the compatibility with DirectX 11.1 technology. The employed GPU houses 2048 current processors. It operates at 1000 MHz frequency in nominal mode but can be accelerated to 1050 MHz during overclocking activity.

This graphics card accommodates 3GB of GDDR5 video memory which features 384-bit interface. Its frequency formula demonstrates up to 6000 MHz on standard …
