Intel to Release CPU Avoton in Late 2013

Intel is known to develop CPU solutions for different types of systems, including home-based compact platforms, as well as corporate server systems. Not so long ago the company announced the decision to introduce its new solution for micro-servers, codenamed Bordenville, which is based on Centerton CPU. A new platform is going to provide good performance characteristics in combination with multifarious facilities. Still, Intel decided to move on and improve the platform for this segment by a more efficient product. Under the preliminary data, the company is going to develop another platform, codenamed Edisonville, based on Avoton processor.

According to the forecasts, Intel Avoton will be able to demonstrate a better performance per watt, as compared with Centerton or Haswell CPUs. Avoton will be notable for the integration of USB, SATA and GbE facilities; thus, the platform will accommodate a couple of SATA III ports, two SATA II ports, four USB 2.0, and four gigabit Ethernet …

They Did It! Official Release of AMD Radeon HD 7990 ‘Malta’

Much rumored reference graphics adapter from AMD has been recently officially introduced. As it was suggested before, Radeon HD 7990, codenamed ‘Malta’, employs two Tahiti XT2 GPUs, each of which contains 128 TMUs, 32 rasterization blocks (ROPs), and 2048 current processors (GCN architecture). Smooth work of both graphics cores is synchronized by means of PLX PEX8747 controller that supports 48 lines of PCI Express 3.0. Nominal clock frequencies ascribed to GPUs operation equal to 950 MHz, but Turbo mode enables the increase of frequencies up to 1000 MHz.

Video memory is represented by GDDR5 memory modules, the overall capacity of which equals to 6 GB (3 GB per each graphics core). Memory modules utilize 384-bit bus and run at 6000 MHz frequency with bandwidth of 288 Gb/sec per core. The incorporated PCB accommodates a single CrossFireX socket for the creation of various graphics configurations, including Quad-CrossFireX. Video interface panel boasts the availability of …

MSI is preparing new model - Radeon HD 7970 with a water-block

The well-known in IT-maker Company MSI announced about appearance of new videoadapter based on GPU Tahiti XT chipset. Its diversity from the other Radeon HD 7970 can be seen with the naked eye, instead of an air cooler practically the entire surface of the PCB is covered with waterblock brand EK. It differs markedly from the original version, since it is designed specifically for the MSI R7970 Lightning model. Relation of adapter to the Lightning series is easily determined by the inscription at the interface connector PCI-E 3.0 x16, as well as non-standard set of video outputs (2x DVI, 4x Mini DisplayPort) and configuration of additional power connectors (2x PCI-E Power 8-pin).

Obviously, the accelerator is positioned as the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition and has a nominal frequency of at least 1050 MHz. Will MSI risk, like Sapphire did, and provide the card with 6 GB of memory? Probably not. The «advanced» composition of the printed circuit board and water block of full coverage …
